Blue Star Software Takes Its Employees Out To The Ballgame And Scores A Homerun In Team Morale
Monday, July 18, 2016 | Falls Church, VA
Blue Star Software, providers of high-end technology services to the United States government, hosted a company picnic at Nationals Park yesterday to demonstrate appreciation for the tireless efforts of its employees. The event kicked off with a buffet lunch in an exclusive area of the stadium and continued with a record-breaking 18-inning game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Employees and their families and friends enjoyed the game from third baseline seats that offered an optimal view of the action.
Dan Sherwell, President of Blue Star, was quoted as saying, “I really enjoyed yesterday’s event. I love getting the team together outside of the office environment. Everyone had a great time and I’m already looking forward to next summer’s get together!”
Alexa Watson, a member of Blue Star’s operations team, had this to say about the event: “When you are building a high performance team, trust is everything. Trust equates to greater innovation, collaboration, and productivity. We consider events like this to be critical in safeguarding our company culture. Events like this are part of what makes Blue Star such a strong team.”
Tom N., one of Blue Star’s software engineers, added, "It was great to see everyone at yesterday’s event. Fun outings like the Nationals game are one of the many reasons why Blue Star is a great place to work."
Blue Star Software Hosts Robot Themed Event For Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day
Thursday, April 28, 2016 | Falls Church, VA
Blue Star Software, providers of IT support services to the United States Government, hosted a robot-themed event on April 28. The event, which intentionally coincided with Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, was designed to allow employees to share their passion for technology and also to encourage the kids to become active, rather than passive, users of technology.
More than half of Blue Star’s employees plus 16 children, ages 3 to 13, attended the event, where they enjoyed hands-on, robot-themed activities including:
- Watching an interactive Lego® Mindstorms® robotics demonstration given by an employee and his two elementary-aged children. Kids as young as 3 were invited to help program the robot to do things like draw with a marker or shoot at targets.
- Working together at computer stations with an elementary, child-friendly programming language called Scratch.
- Playing freely with the many Lego and Duplo® toys available.
- Participating in several other robot-themed coloring, math, and language activities.
Each child left with a smile and an age-appropriate Lego-themed gift bag. Adam T., age six, shared his experience: “I liked programming the Lego Robot, but I liked using ‘Scratch’ the best. I programmed the cat to turn a different color. I went home and used Scratch some more. I also liked the Lego gift.”
The Robotics Day was considered such a success that there are already plans in place to repeat the event next year.
